PUMPKIN ERISSERI
Pumpkin erisseri is one of the essential side dishes in Kerala Sadya.This recipe will be sweet since we are using pumpkin.We can prepare Erisserri using lots of other vegetables also like chick peas, pappaya,green gram etc..This will really good to be served along with rice.So friends try this Kerala side dish in your home too.
INGREDIENTS
- Pumpkin - 500 gms
- Green gram dal - 1 cup
- Green chilies - 7
- Turmeric powder - 1/2 tsp
- Red chilly powder - 1/2 tsp
- Coconut grated - 1.5 cup
- Shallots - 4
- Garlic - 3
- Jeera - 2 pinch
- Curry leaves - as required
To Garnish
Oil
mustard seed - 1/4tsp
Shallots chopped - 1
coconut grated - 1/2 cup
Raisins - 3 tbsp
Curry leaves
Red chilis - 2
METHOD
- Fry the dal for some time.
- Cut the pumpkin into small pieces and keep aside.
- Cook the dal in a pressure cooker.When it is cooked add the pumpkins,salt,green chilies , turmeric powder, red chilly powder to it.
- Grind the coconut, shallots, garlic,curry leaves and jeera to a fine paste.
- When it is cooked smash it well.
- Add the grinded coconut paste to it and cook for 3-4 mins too.
- Mix well and switch off the flame.
- Heat a kadai and add some oil and splutter some mustards and then chopped shallots.
- Add red chilies too and saute well.
- Add raisins too and fry well.
- Add curry leaves too.
- Now add the grated coconut and fry well till brown in colour.
- Garnish this on the curry.
- Mix well.
Here is the delicious Kerala pumpkin Erisseri ready to serve.
