SPECIAL POMFRET FRY


Pomfret Fry is a famous fish recipe.It is made by all fish lovers right from south to north part of India.Even  in Bengal it is a popular fish recipe.Today I m presenting to you a special fish fry recipe.It is prepared  in my own style.First clean and wash the fish then pat dry it.Here I removed the skin of this fish too.Make some gashes on both sides.And apply masala and marinate this for half an hour.Then fry these marinated fish pieces.Let us see the preparation now.

                                                               INGREDIENTS
  • Pomfret fish                                             -  1
  • Red chilly powder                                   -  1.5 tbsp
  • Turmeric powder                                     -  1/4 tsp
  • Garlic powder                                          -  1/4 tsp
  • Pepper powder                                          -  1/4 tsp
  • Ginger Garlic paste                                 -  1/2 tsp
  • Salt                                                            -  to taste
  • Vinegar                                                     -  1 tsp
  • Curry leaves                                            -   2 sprigs
  • Oil                                                            -  to fry
                                                         METHOD
  • Grind red chilly powder,turmeric powder,garlic powder, pepper powder,Ginger garlic paste,vinegar,and salt to a fine paste.
  • Clean and remove the skin of the fish and make some gashes on both sides.Apply this masala to it.Marinate this for half an hour.
  • After 30 mins, heat a pan and pour some coconut oil.Place this fish on the heated oil.
  • Sprinkle the curry leaves on it and fry  till it is done.
  • Garnish and serve hot with rice and chapathi....

SQUID PIKING


Squid piking  is  one of the favorite dishes of my family.It is a starter dish.We used to have this dish from one of the restaurants named Karthiyayini in Cherthala district of Kerala.My kids just love this recipe.My elder son when he came home recently we purchased Squid at home.Only one condition my son told is to prepare Squid Piking .Though I have had this dish many times from the restaurant,I have never tried this recipe on my own.But I never told my kids that I don't know the recipe but instead I gave a try to this recipe.The taste of this recipe was always within me and  in that confidence I started my preparation.The Squid Piking came out really superb with both sweet and spicy tastes.Friends..definitely try this in your kitchen.Let me start with the preparation.

                                             INGREDIENTS
  • Squid                                   -   1 kg
  • Onion Chopped                  -   1 medium
  • Ginger chopped                 -   1 tbsp
  • Garlic chopped                 -   1 tbsp
  • Green chilies chopped     -   3
  • Paprika                              -  1/4 tsp
  • Kashmiri chilly powder  -  1/2 tsp
  • Pepper powder                 -  1/4 tsp
  • Tomato ketchup              -   1.5 tbsp
  • Honey                              -  1 tbsp
  • Salt to taste
For preparing Batter
  • Cornflour                       -  2 tbsp
  • Maida                            -  2 tbsp
  • Egg                                -  1/2 
  • Salt to taste
  • pepper powder             -  1/2 tsp
  • Water                           -  little
                                       METHOD
  • Clean the squid ,cut in round slices and dry the water.



  • Make the batter by using the "For preparing batter" ingredients.


  • Dip the sliced squids in it.



  • Heat some oil in a kadai.


  • Fry the squid rings in this oil.Do not fry altogether. Fry only little by little till crispy.


  • Chop all the vegetables and keep it aside.



  • In the same oil add chopped ginger to it and fry till golden brown.


  • Saute the chopped garlic also till golden brown.


  • Add chopped onions and green chilies to it and saute till golden brown.


  • Add pepper powder to it.


  • Add paprika to it and saute it.


  • Add kashmiri chilly powder to it and saute it again.


  • When this becomes golden brown and crispy add the tomato ketchup to it and mix well.


  • Now add the honey to it.


  • Add little salt and mix well.



  • Now add the fried squid and toss it well


  • The masala should coat the squid.It is in a dry form.


  • Garnish with coriander leaves and serve.

FISH CUTLET- With fish curry pieces



My son likes to eat only fried fish rather than fish curry.But yesterday I prepared a spicy fish curry with cambogia. My son as usual did not even taste the curry.I did not want to waste the fish curry.I thought for a while  and then it struck of preparing a cutlet out of the fish pieces.Then I chopped all the veggies and other ingredients required for preparing cutlets.Once the cutlets were prepared I called my son to taste it.By seeing the cutlet he was so happy and started to eat the cutlets like crazy. One thing I learnt yesterday was that fish curry can be used to prepared Fish cutlets too.Now let me share the recipe to you guys too.

                                                  INGREDIENTS
  • Cooked Fish meat                -  3/4cup (If you are using with fish fillet boil the fish with some pepper, turmeric powder,salt and . I used here fish curry pieces,washed little under water and used)
  • Onion chopped                    -  2 medium
  • Garlic chopped                    -  2 tbsp
  • Ginger chopped                  -   2 tbsp
  • Green chilies chopped        -  4-5 chilies
  • Pepper powder                   -  1 tsp
  • Fennel powder                   -  1/2 tsp
  • Potato                                -   2 medium boiled
  • Bread slices                       -  5-6 slices (1 or 2 days old bread is better to use.While crushing in mixer add some dried curry leaves and little garlic powder  to enhance the bread coating)
  • Egg                                     -  1 beat well
  • Salt to taste
  • Oil
                                                         METHOD




  •  Chop the onions,ginger,garlic, green chilies and coriander leaves and keep it aside.


  •  Keep aside the boiled potatoes and fish meat.


  •  Pour 2 tbsp of oil in a pan and add the chopped  ginger to it and saute for few mins.


  •  Add chopped garlic to it and saute well.


  •  Add chopped onions and green chilies to it.


  •  Let it saute till light brown.


  •  Then add the fish meat to it.


  •  Add fennel powder and pepper powder to it.


  •  Saute well and add the boiled potatoes to it.


  •  Mash it well with a masher and mix it well.


  •  Add coriander leaves to it and finally add the salt.Now urn off the flame.Let it cool.


  •  When it is cooled knead this very well.


  •  Powder the bread and dried curry leaves together.



  •   If it is sticky add little bread crumbs to make it hard.


  •  Shape this according to your taste.Add little garlic powder to enhance the bread crumbs.Beat the egg and keep all aside.


  •  Firstly dip the balls in the egg, then dip it in bread crumbs and press it lightly to coat this well.


  •  Heat oil in a pan.



  •  Fry in oil till it turns golden brown.


  •  Do not over fry it.





  • Serve it hot or cold with sauce,and onions.
