                            UNNIAPPAM- A TEA SNACK



Unniappam is a traditional popular snack in Kerala. This is also known as "Karollappam".Unniappam is one of the favorite snacks of all Keralites especially the children. It is prepared with rice, jaggery,banana,ghee, coconut sesame seeds. One of the specialty of this sweet snack is that it is offered to many of the Temples in Kerala.For people have never tasted unniappam before please do try this for sure. This will tempt you for more once you start having this!!!!
                                

                                                     INGREDIENTS
  • Banana                              - 7
  • Jaggery                             -  6 piece
  • Raw rice                           -  1 cup
  • Grated coconut                 - 3/4 cup
  • Sesame seed                     -  1 tbsp
  • Ghee                                 -  2 tbsp
  • Elaichi                              -   5 to 6 grounded
  • Oil to fry
                                                 METHOD


  • Soak the rice for 4-5 hrs .Crush the jaggery and boil with 1/4 cup of water.When it melts well strain this through a strainer and allow it to cool.After 5 hrs grind them in a mixer with banana and this jaggery syrup.The batter should be in a idli batter consistency.Keep it aside for 2-3 hrs.











  •  Heat a pan, add ghee and splutter the sesame seeds.




  •  After that fry the grated coconuts in the same ghee.




  •  When it gets roasted add this and cardamom powder to the  batter.




  •  Mix it well.





  • Heat  unniappam pan and pour oil till half of the pits.When the oil gets heated pour the batter on all pits up to 3/4 portion and  fry them till golden brown.
