GIANT TARO ROOT MASALA CHICKEN (CHEMBUM CHICKENUM)

GIANT TARO plant is a large ever green plant with extremely large spreading leaves. Giant taro root is an underground vegetable.The shoot and root are used to cook...Here I m using the taro root.
I m presenting a combination of Taro root and chicken. All of us have heard about KAPPA & BEEF(TAPIOCA & BEEF).It is a Nadan style preparation. This recipe is another combination like that.Watch out my step by step preparation...and Enjoy guys!!!!

                           INGREDIENTS
  • Taro root(Kandi chembu)      -  2 medium
  • Chicken pieces                         -   250 gm
  • Onions  chopped                     -   2 medium
  • Green chillies                          - 2 cut into pieces
  • Ginger and Garlic crushed   -  1 tb
  • Coriander powder                 - 2 Tb sp
  • Red chilly powder                 -  2tsp
  • Turmeric powder                  - 1/4+ 1/2 tsp
  • Pepper powder                      -  1/4 tsp
  • Fennel seed powder             - 1/2 tsp
  • Garam masala                       - 3/4 tsp    
  • Curd                                         -  1 tbsp
  • Mustard seed                         -  1/4 tsp
  • Oil                                            - 2-3 tbsp
  • Coriander leaves                  -  as required
  • Curry leaves                          - as required
  • Salt to taste
                            METHOD





  • Cut the taro root and wash 3-4 times.Move this to a pressure cooker and add 1/4 tsp turmeric powder, some salt and after first whistle slow down the flame and cook for 5 mins .When it is cooked remove the water by straining.



  •  Heat a pan, add some oil and add the mustard seeds.


  •  When it pops, add the crushed ginger garlic and saute till light brown.


  •  Now add onion, green chillies and some curry leaves to it.



  •  Soak the masala in little water.


  •  Add this masala to it.



  • When the masala becomes dry add some water to it Saute it again till the water dries up and oil appears.



  •  Now add the chicken pieces to it.


  •  Add curd to it and mix well.


  •  Add salt to it and mix well.


  •  Cover it with a lid and cook in low fire.



  •  When it starts boiling water will come out.

  • When the water dries,and the masala coated in chicken add some coriander leaves and mix well.


  •  Now add the cooked Taro root to this and crush the taro root well with a hard spatula.


  • Mix properly and our Taro root masala chicken is ready to use.......
